army veteran / seattle native / visual artist
My process has evolved into a hybrid of sculpture and painting, using my experience with halftone patterns from screen-printing as the template for creating wall hang-able low-relief sculptures that are hand drilled. I have no formal art education but I don’t believe this technique has a name, so I've been calling it 'low-relief halftone'. I’ve developed this independently over the course of nearly 10 years, and continually discover new possibilities with it.
I explore compositions with dimensionality, similar to traditional low-relief sculptures, but that are fully self-contained in a 3 dimensional space. By adjusting the direction and layering of the pattern, the perception of each piece changes based on lighting, distance, and viewing angle.
